Announce 2001 Schedule and TV Partnership March 16, 2001 - Baltimore, Md. - The Baltimore Bayhawks held its first media day today, announcing coaches, players, venue and schedule, among other things. The media day was the team's introduction to the community as professional outdoor lacrosse makes its debut in Baltimore. The Bayhawks, a member of the new Major League Lacrosse (MLL) organization, will be part of the leagues inaugural season and one of six teams throughout the Northeast. “I am very excited about having professional outdoor lacrosse here in Maryland,” said Baltimore Bayhawks general manager and co-founder, Gordon Boone. “I believe a professional lacrosse team will do very well here and the league as a whole will do well in this part of the country. Baltimore is a lacrosse community and has shown that over the years through its enthusiasm and support for the local sports at the high school and collegiate level. This team will take that enthusiasm and support to another level.” ![]() Bayhawks centerpiece Mark Millon, interviewed by the press The Bayhawks team will be owned by the Baltimore Lacrosse Association. The association is comprised of Chris Hutchins, owner of lacrosse equipment supplier Bacharach-Rasin, Dave Pivec, owner of Pivec Advertising , Ray Schulmeyer, a veterinarian and owner of Schulmeyer Animal Hospital and Boone, CEO of OnAirSports.com. The Bayhawks also announced a TV partnership with local broadcast station WMAR-TV. Scott Garceau and Keith Mills will be announcing all seven home games which will be played at Johns Hopkins University's Homewood Field. The Bayhawks kick off the MLL season here in Baltimore on Thursday, June 7, at 7 p.m., against the Long Island Lizards. Johns Hopkins graduate and former Hopkins assistant coach, Brian Voelker, will coach the team. The assistant coach is Syracuse graduate Todd Curry and the team includes some of the top names in lacrosse, including former All-Americans Greg Cattrano, Mark Millon and Josh Sims. ![]() Bayhawk Midfielder Rob Shek also plays for the Washington Power of the NLL The Bayhawks are one of six teams in the MLL, which was founded by Jake Steinfeld, CEO of Body by Jake Enterprises. The league includes teams in Boston (Cannons), Bridgeport, Conn. (Barrage), Long Island, N.Y. (Lizards), New Jersey (Pride) and Rochester, N.Y. (Rattlers).
