Boston Tops Bridgeport; Then Clinches Playoffs in Rochester

(Bridgeport, CT - August 9, 2002) - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse beat the Bridgeport Barrage 17-15 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, CT. The win moves Boston into a tie with Rochester for the final spot in the 2002 Major League Lacrosse post season. The Cannons play the Rattlers tomorrow night in Rochester at 7:35 p.m. The win moves Boston to 5-7 and drops Bridgeport to 3-10.



"We're weren't looking ahead tonight, and we played tough," said Scott Hiller, Cannons Head Coach. "This is a tough Bridgeport team, and we had to give it everything to get past them. We took care of business tonight, so now we can focus on tomorrow in Rochester." David Evans led the way offensively for Boston. Evans scored 6 goals, including one two-pointer, and added 2 assists to give him 9 points on the night. Evans' 9 points sets a new Cannons single game record for points. Evans also moved into first place on the Cannons in both goals and points with 23 and 41 respectively.

NOTE: Boston Heads to Playoffs for Second Straight Season

The Cannons won their third straight game, beating the Rochester Rattlers 17-15 at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY. The win clinches a playoff berth for the Cannons in 2002. The Cannons also become the first team in MLL history to win the back end of a true back-to-back series.
