John Bogosian scored three of the four Hobart goals in the first quarter to give help his team a comfortable lead. The Statesmen would go up 7-0 with 2:13 left in the second quarter before Rich Pavlick's extra-man goal off a Kyle Tietjen assist finally got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard.

Bogosian, who finished with a career-high six goals, got the Statesmen on the board first in the second half, giving Hobart an 8-1 advantage. Ryan Ward's assist to Jason Soporito at 9:32 in the third quarter cut Butler's deficit to 8-2, but Hobart would score the next four goals to take a commanding 12-2 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.

Each team would score in the final period, with Butler's goal coming from Chris McKay off a Rich Pavlick assist.
