SHIPPENSBURG DEFEATS HOWARD 14-12

WASHINGTON, DC - Page Heath led the Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team to a 14-12 win at Howard University, Tuesday afternoon. Heath scored six goals and dished out three assists in the come-from-behind victory.





Howard took a 4-0 lead to start the game and led 9-4 at halftime. Brittany Merritt put the Bison on the scoreboard at the 37 second mark. Jezelle Estrado, Eva Okereke and Amanda Welsh tallied one goal each during the opening rally. Shippensburg broke its scoring drought with a goal at 5:33 by Suzanne Brazeau. She was assisted by Laura Warrington. Brazeau assisted on Shippensburg's next goal, a tally by Hillary Eckert that narrowed the gap to 4-2.





Jezelle Estrado scored with an assist by Kathy Theodore for the Bison but Heath retaliated for Shippensburg. The half was closed out when Welsh and Merritt scored two goals each sandwiched around a goal by Brazeau. Merritt's last goal of the half came with just 17 seconds left on the clock.

In the second half, Shippensburg erupted for four goals during the first 8:11 to narrow the Bison lead to 9-8. Cristin Marron scored two goals with assists from Lauren Wells and Heath. Heath scored the third goal of the half and assisted on the fourth, a shot by Hillary Eckert at 38:11.





Chizoba Egbuono tallied for Howard to make the score 10-8 at 40:36 but then Heath scored two goals within 21 seconds to tie the game at 10-10. Heath scored with an assist from Danielle Merritt at 43:07 and then she scored again at 43:28.





Howard regained the lead on two more goals by Egbuono. She tallied at 45:56 and 47:01. Shippensburg went on a 4-0 run to overtake the Bison down the stretch. Marron scored with an assist by Heath at 48:02 and then she tied the game at 48:20.

Heath took over and scored at 51:25 to put Shippensburg in the lead. She added an insurance goal at 54:04. Shippensburg's record is now 2-3, while the Bison dropped to 2-5. The Lady Raiders will travel to Lock Haven, Saturday, April 5, for their next game.
