US Tops Traditional Foes Canada and The Iroquois Nation
June 29 - The United States men’s lacrosse team scored the final five goals of the game to pull away for a 14-6 victory over the Iroquois Nation in the International Lacrosse Federation U-19 World Championship at Towson University. The U.S. is in sole possession of first place of the Blue Division with a 3-0 record.
Kyle Dixon (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding/Virginia), Craig Nolan (Plano, TX/Jesuit College/Ohio State), Greg Peyser (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor/Johns Hopkins) and Patrick Walsh (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh/Notre Dame) all had two goals for the U.S. Brandon Francis led the Iroquois Nationals with three goals and an assist.
The U.S. did suffer one significant injury in the contest. Goalie Mike Petit (Midlothian, Va./Collegiate) injured his right ankle midway through the second quarter and is likely lost for the remainder of the tournament. Harry Alford (Washington, D.C./St. Alban’s), who started in the U.S.’s 14-10 win over Canada, made four saves after replacing Petit. ILF rules state that rosters cannot be altered after the championships begin, so Alford will be the U.S. team’s only goalie for the remaining games. The U.S. is idle until playing England on July 1 at 5 p.m. in Towson Stadium.
