England Men & Wales Women Take European Crowns July, 2004 |
PRAGUE HOSTS 2004 ELC
Prague was the center of international lacrosse in 2004 as 18 nations competed in the Men and Women´s European Lacrosse Championships in July. Wales beat Scotland in the Women's final while England topped a very much improved Germany on the Men's side. Enjoy the excellent video coverage shot by Dave Hallows and photos by Petr Tahal.The following countries entered the men´s tournament: England, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Latvia, Germany, Austria, Scotland, Slovakia, Sweden, Wales and the Czech Republic. The women´s tournament competitors were: England, Germany, Scotland, Wales, the Czech Republic, and Denmark.
The European Lacrosse Championships were first held in Prague in 1995. Thereafter, it was held annually (except for 1998 when the World Games were held) until 2001. The ELF agreed upon a four-year cycle in which the European Championship would be held on the even years in between the World Games. There have been five European Women´s Championships and six Men´s Championships. The 2004 European Championship now follows the 2002 World Games in Perth as the biggest international tournament in lacrosse history.
