Charlottesville, Va. - Sophomore goalie Dave Law made a career-high 15 saves, including one with seven seconds left, to help lift Princeton to an 8-7 win over Virginia in men's lacrosse action at Klöckner Stadium this afternoon.

The loss is the Cavaliers' fourth in a row, their longest losing streak in 17 years as they fall to 1-4 this season. Princeton rebounds from last weekend's loss to top-ranked Johns Hopkins to improve to 2-1.

The Cavaliers scored first on Kyle Dixon's fourth goal of the season less than three-and-a-half minutes in, but Princeton's Ryan Boyle forced the first of three first half ties with his seventh goal of the season with 7:00 remaining in the opening period. Virginia's leading scorer, Matt Ward, notched the first of his game-high three goals 91 seconds later, but Drew Casino and Jason Donegar scored in the final two minutes of the quarter to give the visiting Tigers their first lead at 3-2.

Cavalier midfielder Mike Abbott tied the score for the third time in the game's first 17 minutes with his second goal of the season two minutes into the second quarter. But Casino and Whitney Hayes scored back-to-back goals as the Tigers built their first two-goal lead of the day midway through the second quarter. The teams traded goals just before halftime with the Tigers holding a 6-4 lead at the break.

John Christmas returned to action after missing last week's game against Syracuse and scored his only goal of the afternoon early in the third period, but the Cavaliers were never able to get closer than one goal as the teams traded goals the rest of the way. The Cavaliers had one last chance to tie the score following a turnover by Peter Trombino along the end line. UVa called timeout with 52 seconds left to set up the offense. The Cavaliers missed their first two shots, but backed up both times.

Princeton called its final timeout with 14.2 seconds remaining. On the restart attackman Matt Ward worked free for a shot from the left side, but Law saved the low shot. The ball kicked around among a pile of players in front of the crease was called for goalie interference with 4.2 seconds on the clock. Tiger defenseman Oliver Barry threw the ball downfield as time expired as Princeton gained its first win in Charlottesville since 1994.
