The Online Lacrosse Magazine and Superstore

Washington, DC - Lacrosse great Casey Powell joins the E-Lacrosse staff this week as the Director of Sales and Marketing. Powell, considered by many to be the best player in the game today, stars in both the indoor and outdoor professional lacrosse leagues, co-owns Powell Brothers Lacrosse and now joins the top publication in the game of lacrosse in a role that will shape the company's future.

The Carthage, New York native now lives in Newport Beach, CA where he enjoys the surf, the exploding west coast lacrosse scene and year-round golf. November, 2004 will long be remembered by Casey. This new challenge at E-Lacrosse, playing for the very first time with both of his younger brothers, Ryan and Mike at the Hawaii Tournament and preparing for a big season with Ryan and the Anaheim Storm is all just prelude. Casey marries his girlfriend of 6 years, Lisa Panebianco, at the end of the month!

At Syracuse, Powell was the heir apparent to Gary Gait. He ably donned the #22 jersey with deference to Gait, affability toward teammates and fans, and Orange championship glory. After Syracuse, he entered the lacrosse marketplace as the most sought after commercial entity in the modern era of the game. Surprising everyone, he signed with fledgling manufacturer, Warrior, and was the company's marquis athlete and celebrity throughout its rise. He was joined at Warrior by his brother Ryan, forming a dominant marketing image for years.

"This might be the easiest decision I ever made", Says E-lacrosse Editor, John Weaver. "We are very excited to add Casey to our great team. I've known him for a long time and knew he'd eventually be doing something with us. He's been a protégé of Roy Simmons, Jr., John Desko and Gary Gait. He's from one of the closest and nicest families I've ever met. He's a self-taught player, a disciplined professional athlete in the best shape of his life and he's a happy person. He brings all of these qualities to our company."

E-Lacrosse has always focused on readers and current advertisers in lacrosse while allowing new advertising sales to lag, according to Weaver. "We've really dropped the ball attracting the out-of-lacrosse advertisers that are strikingly absent from all lacrosse publications. Lacrosse and E-Lacrosse are both getting too big and too mainstream for that to continue. We think Casey will make the difference and the time is ripe," Weaver says. "We think today's media buyer in Chicago, New York or L.A. has a son, daughter, nephew or neighbor who's a huge Casey Powell fan. And it's not just his celebrity as the game's most popular player that we're counting on. He has always been one of the nicest people in the game; an unassuming superstar who respects fans and fellow players equally. His autograph mob is always the biggest and he signs for every kid, adult and even the media on occasion. He's a class act. We couldn't be happier."

Powell will begin officially in December after his honeymoon, but he's already fielding advertising inquiries and contacting current advertisers to make introductions. New sponsors of E-Lacrosse will work with Casey and our creative staff to design campaigns specifically for the large lacrosse audience on the internet. Casey has been an E-lacrosse reader since his Syracuse days and is excited to be part of the E-Lacrosse Team. "I'm thrilled to be working with E-Lacrosse. We have a clear set of goals and they all help grow the game of lacrosse, not just our advertising revenues. I look forward to a long and successful relationship with E-lacrosse and with so many of my old friends who in some cases will be my new clients. I can't wait to start. We are hoping to bring advertisers to E-Lacrosse and lacrosse generally that aren't here now. Many companies can totally benefit from the lacrosse demographics and just don't realize it yet. That's my job. And I'll help out a little with the reader questions at E-Lacrosse which will be fun to do. AND we have some other great surprises for the kids that include my brothers too. I can't say more but it will present us and the game like we always wanted it to be done - the way we really are and with respect for everybody."

Casey was the all-time leading scorer in high school history with 543 points, a two-time NCAA Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998, Syracuse University all-time scoring leader, MLL all-time Scoring Leader and a member of US Lacrosse's All Century Team. He won an NCAA National Championship in 1995, a World Championship in 1998, an MLL Championship in 2001 and wants to bring an NLL title to Anaheim for a complete set.

Casey will also add to E-lacrosse content with Stick Tech Q&A's and an occasional column on topical matters like the Hawaii Tournament. You can always write Casey here at E-Lacrosse at Casey@e-lacrosse.com!
