Hobart Tops Butler
Butler Freshman Jason Donati scored four goals Saturday, but No. 20 Hobart College was able to control face-offs and took an 11-7 win in a neutral site game played at St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, Md. Freshman Cliff Smith found the net two times as well Saturday, matching his performance in the season opener last week. The game was the first of the 2005 season for Hobart, while Butler falls to 0-2 on the year.
Chris David and Nate Molinari each had three goals for Hobart, while Sean Murphy and Patrick Meade each found the net twice. Dan Valente got the win for Hobart, making 19 saves.
Stan Ross
Butler's Kyle Tietjen had two assists on the day. Senior Anthony Crimmins and freshman Nick Vosburgh also had assists. Ryan Kaiser got the start in goal for the Bulldogs and took the loss. He combined with Sam Ashley to make 22 saves.
Matt Kerwick
Hobart was able to win 16 of 22 face-offs and had 52 shots to the Bulldogs' 34. The teams combined for just five penalties and Butler was the only team to take advantage of the extra-man. Smith's goal at 9:32 of the third quarter was on an extra-man opportunity. Hobart had a 49-28 lead in ground balls.
