Eagles win first game of season

Washington, D.C. - American was led by freshman Robin Steinberg,
freshman Andrea Mayer and junior Liz Goodrich who each tallied a hat
trick to give AU its first win of the season. The Eagles defeated St.
Joseph's, 13-6, at Reeves Field in front of 267 fans. St. Joseph's
freshman Bernadette Smith tallied a hat trick for the Hawks.
American (1-3, 0-2 CAA) led the Hawks, 7-3, at the intermission.
Steinberg opened up the scoring for AU just 4 minutes into action off an
assist from Goodrich. The win marked AU's first of the season and first
at home this year. Steinberg, Mayer and Goodrich each recorded their
first hat tricks of the season. Leading 4-3 with 19 minutes remaining
in the first half, the Eagles went on a streak scoring two goals just 20
seconds apart. Mayer then capped off the first half with a goal at
12:13 left in the half. AU dominated the second half outscoring the
Hawks, 6-3.
St. Joe's was led by Smith with three goals. Also scoring for the
Hawks was Megan Maher, Christine Ryan and Cara Sweeney. Goalkeepers
Brandy Meyers and Laura Garrick recorded a combine eight saves.
Junior goalkeeper Christina Jermyn (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West)
made 9 saves and American will travel to George Mason for a 3:30 p.m.
