WALTHAM, Mass. --- Sophomore attackman Ryan Donohue (Haverhill/

(No. Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero- No. Syracuse HS) picked up six assists as
Bentley College opened its 1998 season with a 23-2 win over American
International College in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse Thursday
afternoon.
Bentley, ranked ninth nationally in Division II, jumped on top from
the start, scoring 10 times in the first period. It was 15-0 at the
halftime break, 20-0 after three and 23-0 before the Yellow Jackets finally
got on the board with 1:40 left in the fourth.
Donohue figured in half of Bentley's ten first-period goals, amassing
three of his four goals and both of his assists in the first 15 minutes.
Bendell, who came within one of the Bentley single game assist record, also
picked a goal en route to his seven-point afternoon.
Senior Jason McCafferty (Southington, Conn./Southington HS), junior
Geoff Silva (Billerica/Billerica HS) and sophomore Dean Hogancamp
(Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth HS) each added three goals for the Falcons.
Hogancamp, who set a school record with 52 goals last season as a freshman,
also recorded three assists, while McCafferty was returning to action after
a broken collarbone ended his 1997 season early.
Three Falcons tallied their first career goals in the game, including
freshmen Brad Estebrook (So. Berwick, Maine/Marshwood HS) and Jon Gibson
(So. Burlington, Vt./So. Burlington HS), who each had two. Pete O'Neill
(Amityville, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS), also a freshman, also netted his first
score as a collegian.
Bentley peppered the net with 77 shots, while AIC had only 12 as
Falcon goalies Matt Ehrlich (Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon HS) and Mike Kozloff
(Wyomissing, Pa./Brewster Academy) combined for only six saves.
The AIC goals were scored by captains Matt DeSautels (South Hadley)
and Ben Reese (Dover), with the latter netting his 99th career goal with 58
seconds to play.
The road will get a great deal more difficult on Saturday when the
Falcons travel to Long Island to face the nation's top-ranked Division II
team, Adelphi University (1:00 p.m.).
