WASHINGTON, D.C.  --  Junior All-American attackman Greg McCavera (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) notched two goals and two assists to lead the 10th-ranked Georgetown men's lacrosse team to a 9-7 victory over 12th-ranked Navy on Saturday, March 28, at Harbin Field.  With the win, the Hoyas snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Midshipmen fall to 5-3.

In addition to McCavera, senior All-American midfielder Greg Hubschmann (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) tallied two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Greg Peters (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) posted a pair of goals.  Georgetown's defense also played a big part in the win as the Hoyas held Navy scoreless for a 31:14 span from the second quarter to the fourth period.

Georgetown held the Mids scoreless for the final 9:51 of the second quarter and all of the third stanza.  Navy finally broke the drought with 8:37 to play in the fourth quarter.  The Midshipmen scored four goals in the final 8:37 of the game.

Navy was led by junior attackmen J.L. Reppert and Jamie O'Leary, who both scored a pair of goals and Reppert added an assist as well.  Senior midfielders Mike Newton and Scott Meushaw added a goal and an assist apiece.

The Hoyas got on the scoreboard first as Hubschmann scored an unassisted goal midway through the opening period.  Navy's Gilroy scored an extra-man goal off a feed from Meushaw at the 6:39 mark to knot the game at 1-1.  Peters scored unassisted 2:12 into the second period to give the Hoyas a 2-1 advantage.  Just seven seconds later, Reppert scored off a feed from junior attackman Alex Borcz to tie the game at 2-2.  O'Leary's unassisted goal at the 9:51 mark gave the Midshipmen their only lead of the game.

Only 40 seconds after O'Leary's goal, McCavera tallied his first of the game to knot the score at 3-3. McCavera put Georgetown ahead for good at the 8:00 mark of the third quarter with his second goal of the game.  Sophomore attackman Andy Flick (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) put the Hoyas up 5-3 with 6:31 remaining in the third quarter with a goal off a feed from McCavera.  Hubschmann opened the fourth stanza with a goal at the 13:37 mark to increase the Hoya lead to 6-3.  Junior midfielder Tyler Gamble (New Canaan, Conn./Westminster) then scored a man-down goal off a pass from McCavera with 8:52 to play to increase the GU lead to 7-3.

Navy finally ended its 31:14 scoreless span at the 8:37 mark of the final stanza on an extra-man goal by O'Leary.  The Hoyas responded to the Navy goal with one by junior attackman Scott Urick (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) off a feed from senior midfielder Mike Corry (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) with 6:41 left to play.  With 4:26 on the clock, Reppert scored an extra-man goal off a feed from Newton to make the score 8-5.  Peters responded with his second tally of the game to push the Georgetown advantage four, 9-5.  Newton brought Navy within three, 9-6, with a goal just 16 seconds after Peter's.  Meushaw closed out the scoring with an extra-man goal with 36 seconds to play off a feed from Reppert to make the final score 9-7.
