NEWS FROM ARIZONA
On behalf of the Anton Bakker Family, his friends and the University of
Arizona Men's Lacrosse Team, I would like to thank everyone from around the
World that joined us with thoughts, prayers, and letters for his well being.
Our worst fears were realized on Thursday, February 19, when Anton's body was
recovered at approximately 1:00 PM MST. After four days of exhaustive
searching by numerous people, he was found by friend and onetime teammate, Max
Webber, 3 miles from where he went over the 80 foot waterfall last Sunday.
Anton Bakker, was 22 years old on Tuesday, and died while courageously
attempting to save the life of a friend's dog. That act, in itself, clearly
defines the type of man Anton was. He is our hero, and will remain in our
hearts and minds forever.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday on campus and he will be brought
home to Northern California for burial next week.

E-Lacrosse recieved and posted the following on 2/18/97 and appreciate all of the inquiries about Anton's well being. We regret that we cannot say that our collective prayers and wishes were granted:
It is an extremely trying moment for the University of Arizona and the Men's
Lacrosse Team. One of our teammates has fallen into some very difficult time
and needs everyone's positive thoughts for his survival. Anton Bakker,
graduated from St. Ignatius HS in San Francisco in 1994 and entered the U of A
that year.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, he was with a few friends in the Tucson
Mountains when he jumped in a water pool to save a dog. The currents took
them from one pool to another and finally down an 80 foot waterfall. As of
today, Wednesday, the animal's body has been recovered but not Anton's. If we
all put some positive energy perhaps we can create a miracle and our friend
Anton, will survive this ordeal. His parents have arrived in Tucson, and I'm
sure would appreciate your positive thoughts.
