EASY LINKS: May 21 Archived Show ![]() ...In the continuing Razor saga, Warrior has a few MLL guys using the their version. Jesse Hubbard had one at the New Jersey - Baltimore Game. We have some exclusive pictures taken in New Jersey last week. Also, it is rumored that with the Pride out of the playoffs and new helmets hopefully being issued for next year, the aforementioned Hubbard gave away his Cascade custom C2 helmet after Sundays game to a lucky fan in the stands. He also gave away the Razor he was using. So A Razor is out there - somewhere. We'll get the skinny on the deBeer Razor from Paul Gait on the August 27th show. ...The Razor wars have one fewer participant this week as STX's new head with a new shape, pinched throat and open scoop will be called "BIONIC". There will now be only two Razors out there. One from deBeer and one from Warrior who already has the blade. ...It looks like Jen Adams will host a show on E-Lacrosse in 2002. The E-Lacrosse Tech Team has also been picked up for 2002, but may lose Pat Miller and Van O'Banion during the spring season. ...At least one player has been fined by the MLL for wearing non-warrior equipment under uniforms or approved equipment. A popular goalkeeper chose to use a competitor's chest protector and was reportedly fined over five hundred dollars. This might seem high, but the asking price by the league for a player(s) to use non-warrior equipment was six figures and up. ...Paul Gait will be practicing this week for the Long Island Lizards of the MLL. If he returns to action this weekend, he'll join his brother Gary and fellow Syracuse immortal Casey Powell on the already confident and cohesive league leaders. If he is used as Gary's replacement on another midfield so there is almst always a Gait on the field, as has been done in club ball in some years past, the learning curve adding one of the game's great players could be next to nothing. By the end of the season, Paul and Gary will run together when the team needs it, but look for platooning at first. ...Grumbling in the MLL about the sticks the players must use. They're not allowed to officially gripe but the insiders hear the buzz more and more as the season wears on. During the Summer Showcase, a mild rumble about the mandatory footware was heard even on the outside. The Warrior monopoly on MLL equipment supply has been good to them so far, with the Blade selling well, but players talk and if they aren't happy, everyone will know by the next Spring season. We'll have to wait and see. We haven't met a player yet who wouldn't prefer choice, even if they would pick the same stick they use now. ...Oprah Winphrey as an NLL team owner? That just might be the case if a Chicago team is franchised for 2002 or 2003! A big computer CEO is looking at franchising new teams in two cities and posssibly buying the team in his hometown. ...Eric Cartman of South Park is based on an irreverent lacrosse playing kid who's older brother was a friend of Trey Parker. The real Cartman played at USC, we think. ...John Grant leaves Warrior for STX...Jen Adams also signs with STX...Tom Glatzel couldn't accept his All-American Award from Warrior this past week becasue he's with his Notre Dame team in Ireland playing lacrosse! His brother John, also named to the team as a defender from Syracuse, accepted for him...Gavin Prout is the likely first draft choice in the NLL draft, but New Jersey, picking 2nd, wants him badly. How badly? Enough for New Jersey team owner Jason Williams (the Jason Williams) to contact Prout personally to tell him how much. Rumor is that they hit it off and Williams may have a deal in the works. Prout, who was also just drafted by the Baltimore Bayhawks of the MLL and still attends classes in Baltimore, has stated that the commute to number one NLL pick holder, Calgary, would be impossible...
