MARYLAND L.C. 9, BYU 8
The best in the National Collegiate Lacrosse League (NCLL) and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse League Associates (USILAA) faced off today in College Park as the powerhouse University of Maryland Lacrosse Club hosted National USLILAA Champion Brigham Young University in the initial game of thier first ever east coast road trip. The Terps were victorious but had to fight back to gain the 9 - 8 victory with only a few seconds left in regulation on a quick Jordan Garis (North Carolina) ground ball and shot between Mike Nelson's legs.

The Cougars leapt out to a quick 5 - 1 lead after a tally by Landon's (MD) Jared Archibald and two each by Matt Davis from Bullis (MD) and Travis Clater (Fauquier, VA). But the Terps, stunned at first by the western visitor's skills and aggressiveness, mounted a steady two-quarter comeback to eventually eventually even things at 7 in the fourth quarter on a goal by Catonsville Community College transfer Kevin Laugherty. The comeback was fueled by goals from Gonzaga's (MD) Pat Sindalar, Paul Volpcelli (Mahopac, NY) and Chris Constitino (Catonsville C.C. transfer).

After the tying score, Cameron Pratt scored to put the Cougars ahead again, but Maryland L.C. rallied for the last two goals. BYU goalkeeper Mike Nelson, a Senior from Fairfield Connecticut impressed all that watched and thwarted many one on one opportunities, keeping the Cougars ahead of the Terps most of the way.

The coaches: Tim Polvinale for Maryland and Jason Lamb for BYU.
